Foluso Oguntoye is a visual artist from Lagos Nigeria whose work is particularly influenced by Nature, especially tropical indigenous flora, forests and landscapes and our relationship with them. He continues to explore and expand on these multilayered themes in his practice to see where it leads.

He is especially drawn to the land, nature and plants and actively works with them which continues to deepen his curiosity for nature and inform his art and desire to merge his nature work with his art practice.

"My art is an imaginative exploration of the rhythms expressed and encoded in nature. This is to further realize and communicate the natural union and affinity between humans and nature, in a world that is increasingly alienated and disconnected from nature and life’s processes.

Particularly influenced by tropical indigenous flora, forests and landscapes, I explore this through a prism of Yoruba mythology and cosmology. This facilitates a decolonised understanding of spirituality and self-discovery, which re-centres indigenous thought in the increasing contemporary conversation on environmental conservation, re-imagination and the recreation of our natural world and culture. Through this I also express indigenous ecofeminist principles and ideals which highlight the interconnectedness of women and the environment, and emphasizes balance, harmony and non-patriarchal and non-oppressive imaginations and ways of our interaction with nature."

Working with Acrylic paints, Oil Pastels, watercolours and drawing, I respond to and mirror the inner human experience through plants and nature. I re-imagine scapes, worlds and portraits that explore questions and thoughts to re-member the past, archive the present, and imagine a future that constructs a life that is balanced and in harmony with nature.
